Nature Protection

Fibre-optic cable laying along the routes used by the gas pipeline is done with the utmost care and with due regard for the needs of nature and landscape protection and in compliance with the landscape ordinance plans in place.

Nature Protection

To maximise environmental protection and minimise the use of land, fibre-optic cable laying is usually restricted to the strip of land used by the natural gas pipeline.

Protecting the landscape and agricultural land
Any surface restoration work required is carried out after cable laying has been completed. Agricultural use of the land above the gas pipeline can continue as before.

Nature protection requirements
Nature protection aspects relating to the installation of telecommunication lines and their approval are not covered by the Telecommunications Act. The nature protection side of cable laying is subject to permits under the nature protection laws of the local state. Under these laws, ecologically sensitive biotopes even enjoy special protection.
Working in such areas requires a landscape ordinance plan to be prepared which must specify:

  • Reasons why project is necessary

  • Measures taken to avoid or minimise damage to land

  • Remediation measures at the site or elsewhere for compensation

  • Final summary of all interventions
